Castaneia is derived from castanea which is the genus name for chestnut trees.
An Old Staple Returns
We plan on using Mark Shephard’s book “Restoration Agriculture” as a guide. He calls for the planting of many perennial trees including, among others, the chestnut which could once again become a staple food. The American chestnut used to dominate the Appalachian landscape hundreds of years ago and is making a comeback.
